Getting Back on Track

Updated: May 16, 2020

Sometimes things don't go according to plan. You can be dedicated and have solid workout routine or diet, but life throws a curve-ball and you fall off track. It's okay! You're human. Starting again is challenging, but there are steps you can follow to make it easier. Now is the time. Use these steps to set your intention and get back on track!

1. Find your why.

Why do you want to exercise? What do you want to achieve? Take your time with this. Just saying you want to be healthier isn't specific. How would this make you feel? Once you understand your "why", commit to yourself and keep going!

2. Establish your plan.

Having a plan not only gives you a solid program to follow, but also reduces the likelihood that you'll miss a workout. Map out when, where, how, and what type of exercise you will be doing. I put my workouts in my phone calendar two weeks at a time and think of them as appointments that I can't miss: 2 days of strength, 2 days of cardio, and 1 day of yoga. If you really need to change a day, then switch it with a rest day. If you need help establishing your plan, contact me for more information about creating your personalized Hustle program.

3. Stay accountable.

Find a partner who will remind you of your goals and why you started. Better yet, make them your workout buddy. Have fun with your friends while pushing each other through your programs; it's helpful to have someone by your side who is also trying to make healthy choices.

4. Push yourself.

What do you require from yourself? Imagine your future self one year from now looking back having completed your goals. What did it take to get there? It's not just about showing up and mindlessly doing the workout or following a diet. You have to commit to yourself, push yourself, and understand what it is you are striving for.

5. Be forgiving.

Talking down to yourself is a waste of energy. Missed a workout? Schedule it for another day. No one is perfect, so don't expect yourself to be. Take a deep breath, forgive yourself, and move on because any time you spend beating yourself up is time away from getting back on track. Instead, be grateful for every workout completed, healthy meal chosen, and milestone reached. You deserve to be proud of yourself.

Now you know the steps. You're ready to tackle your goals.
